Four people have died and one is missing after lightning strikes at two separate places in Rangamati’s Longadu. Three passengers died after lightning struck a boat in Furremukh area of Longadu union of the upazila. The driver is still missing in this incident. At the same time, one person died due to lightning in Karlyachhari union of Attarchhara union of the upazila. This incident of lightning happened around 3:30 pm on Saturday. The deceased people were returning home after shopping in the market.
Talking to the police, it is known that 10 to 12 people were going to Bhasannaya Adam village of Bhasannaya Adam Union in an engine-powered boat from Longdur Mainimukh Bazar this afternoon. At about 3:30 pm, when Longadu reached Furermukh area of Sadar Union, there was a sudden lightning incident. Three passengers and the driver of the engine-driven boat were burnt. The people at the scene recovered the bodies of three passengers, but the boatman (driver) is still missing. Being struck by lightning, he fell into the water and drowned. It is believed that he also died due to lightning.
The dead passengers of the boat are Sheikh Parar of Bhasanya Adam. Obaidul (30), Md. Ziaul Haque (50) and Md. Bachchu Mia (30). Apart from this, boatman Akkas Ali (45) is still missing. At the same time, one person died in Karlyachhari village of Longdur Attarchhra union. Her name is Mina Begum (35). He was standing by the window of his house.
