Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Mr. ATM Azharul Islam and demanded the release of all detained leaders and activists before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayebe Amir and former MP Prof. Mujibur Rahman gave the following statement on June 14:-
“The government has unjustly detained the Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mr. ATM Azharul Islam, in prison for almost 13 years. Rajshahi Mahanagari Jamaat Secretary Mr. Imaz Uddin Mall went to appear in Rajshahi court on April 22, he and 9 others were arrested from the court premises. At present 153 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir across the country have been detained by the government with false and fabricated cases.
The families and relatives of the detained leaders of Jamaat are spending their days in extreme anxiety, worry and worry. Eid-ul-Azha will be very painful for the families of the Jamaat leaders while they are in jail. The government should release all the royal prisoners including Jamaat leaders before Eid-ul-Azha and give them an opportunity to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Azha with their families.
Former Brigadier General Abdullahil Aman Al Azmi, son of former Emir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Prof. Ghulam Azam, and son of former Central Executive Council member of Jamaat-e-Islami, Shaheed Mir Kasem Ali, young lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court, Barrister Mir Ahmad bin Kasem Arman, have been missing since August 2016. They have been arrested and taken away from their respective homes in the name of law and order forces. But till today their families did not know where they are and what their condition is. For almost 8 years, their families have been living in deep worry and anxiety. Their families are still waiting for their return. We appeal to the concerned authorities to return them before Eid-ul-Azha and give them an opportunity to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families.
I appeal to the concerned authorities to release them before the holy Eid-ul-Azha so that all the arrested leaders and activists including Assistant Secretary General Mr. ATM Azharul Islam can celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Azha in a free environment.”
