Two killed in head-on collision between truck and easybike in Dinajpur, highway blocked

Two people, including the driver of the easy bike, were killed in a head-on collision between a cargo truck and a battery-powered easy bike in Dinajpur’s Fulbari upazila. The accident took place on Phulbari-Dinajpur highway in Baraihat area of ​​the upazila at 10:30 am on Thursday.

After the accident, local people got angry and blocked the Phulbari-Dinajpur highway for two hours. This caused traffic jams on both sides of the highway. Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mir Md. Al Kamah Tamal and Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman went to the spot and brought the situation under control and the traffic flow became normal.

The deceased were Nazrul Islam (48), a resident of Sujapur village in Fulbari town, and Jahanara Begum (50), wife of Afzal Hossain Pramanik of Madanpur village in Habra union of Parvatipur upazila. He was the passenger of that easy bike. Kashem Ali (60) and his wife Jinna Khatun (50) of Madanpur village of Parvatipur were seriously injured in the accident. They were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Talking to the police and local people, it is known that Nazrul Islam, an easy bike driver, left for Phulbari from Baraihat in the upazila around 10:30 am. While taking a turn after crossing Baraihat, the Easybike collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction of Dinajpur. Two people including the driver of the easybike were killed on the spot and the easybike was overturned.

The local people rescued the two injured passengers and sent them first to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex and then to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur. Later from there they were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. After the accident, local people got angry and blocked the road. The blockade was lifted after two hours when UNO and police came and calmed down the local residents.

Phulbari Police Station OC Md. Mostafizar Rahman told Prothom Alo that he went to the spot after receiving the news of the accident. The local people arrested the truck driver and his accomplice and handed them over to the police. They have been kept in police custody. The truck has been impounded. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Relatives of the deceased have arrived. Further legal action will be taken after talking to them. Now traffic on the road is normal.
