A schoolgirl named Sumaiya Tanzin Shimu (16) died after being hit by a train in Gafargaon, Mymensingh.
The incident took place on Tuesday (June 11) at around 11:30 a.m. at the Hatikhla railway crossing on the Mashakhali-Gafargaon railway of the upazila.
She was the daughter of late Abdul Hannan (Surooj) of Mukhi village in Mashakhali union of the upazila and a class 10 student of Mukhi Palli Sevak High School.
Gafargaon UP chairman Shamchul Alam Khokon and headmaster of that school Abdul Hannan confirmed the matter.
According to Gafargaon Railway Police and local sources, the schoolgirl was coming from her house in Mukhi village of Mashakhali Union of Sumaiya Upazila to Nana Abdul Majid Master’s house in Basutia village of neighboring Gafargaon Union, keeping Eid in mind. At that time, while crossing the railway crossing in Hatikhla area on the Mashakhali-Gafargaon railway, he was hit by the Mohanganj-bound Mahua Express train that left Dhaka and died on the spot.
Abdul Hannan, headmaster of Mukhi Palli Sevak High School, said that the deceased Sumaiya Naznin Shimu was a brilliant student of class 10 science department in my school.
Gafargaon Railway Outpost In-charge SI Karthik Chandra confirmed the incident and said that the police were sent to the spot and the body was recovered. When the family of the deceased student requested the body without an autopsy, the body was handed over to the family members after talking to the UP Chairman and local people.
