Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a battery-operated auto-rickshaw and a passenger bus in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur. A woman was seriously injured. The incident took place on the Kaliganj-Tongi-Ghorashal bypass road in the upazila’s Nalchata area today at 12 noon on Thursday.
The identities of the two dead and the injured woman were not initially known.
Kaliganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Maruf Ahmed said, today at noon a bus of Chalanbil Paribahan was going towards Tongi. When the bus reached Nalchata area of the Kaliganj-Tongi-Ghorashal bypass road, it collided head-on with a battery-powered autorickshaw coming from the opposite direction. A passenger of the autorickshaw died on the spot. Two of the injured were rescued and taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, where one died. The injured woman is under treatment at the hospital. The bus was impounded after the incident. Legal action will be taken in this case.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex Shahidul Islam said that two people injured in the road accident were brought to the hospital. One of them was brought dead. One seriously injured person has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
