A youth named Jewel has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl in Banani of the capital. Judge Sabera Sultana Khanam of Dhaka Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal gave this order on Wednesday.
Special Public Prosecutor (PP) of that tribunal Afroza Ahmed told Prothom Alo that the child was living with his family in Banani area. On November 13, 2018, Jewel raped the child by tempting her with 10 rupees. Later the child’s family filed a case at Banani police station. In this case, on May 12, 2019, the police submitted a charge sheet to the court against Jewell. The court sentenced Jewel to life imprisonment in that case today. He is currently in jail.
