General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader termed the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 as a realistic people-oriented budget in the time of crisis.
Obaidul Quader made this comment in response to the budget after Finance Minister presented the budget in Parliament on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali presented the budget proposal for the financial year 2024-25 in the National Parliament today. Before that, the Cabinet approved the budget proposal and the President. Sahabuddin later signed the proposal.
The size of the proposed budget for the financial year 2024-25 is 7 lakh 97 thousand crores. Among them, the deficit is estimated at 2 lakh 56 thousand crores, which is 4.6 percent of the GDP.
Obaidul Quader said, in this time of crisis, the budget has been made for the people. The budget has been given taking into consideration the promises and priority sectors given in the party’s election manifesto. There will also be focus on price control. This budget is realistic.
In response to the questions of the journalists whether any suggestion of IMF has been followed in the preparation of the budget, the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges said that the budget was not prepared according to anyone’s prescription. Sheikh Hasina’s government does not follow anyone’s prescription.
Regarding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India, he said that the Prime Minister will visit Delhi on the occasion of Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on Saturday, not Friday.
