Police arrested seven Jamaat-Shibir leaders from a secret meeting in Nabinagar. They were arrested from the house of Abdur Rashid in Narui village of the upazila around 11 o’clock on Friday.
Arrested – Md. Abdur Rashid, Dr. Md. Abu Hanif, Badal Mia, Jahangir Alam, Md. Mamun Mia, Shaheen Islam and Saheed Alam. All their houses are in different areas of the district.
According to the police, during the initial interrogation, the detainees admitted that the main purpose of the secret meeting was to thwart the upcoming Upazila Parishad elections. Police Station OC Mahbub Alam said that Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists were meeting in Narui village to thwart the upcoming Nabinagar Upazila Parishad elections. A few others fled from there on sensing the presence of the police.
