Police have arrested 20 Jamaat-Shibir activists from Lalpur in Natore on charges of planning sabotage. They were arrested from Shivnagar area of the upazila around 10 pm on Tuesday (April 30).
The arrested persons are the son of late Ershad Ali of Biropara area of Lalpur. Abdul Wahab (65), Gouripur area. Giyas Uddin’s son Ed. Md. Masud Rana (38), son of late Surat Sardar of Navinnagar Paschimpara area. Aslam Hossain (40), Md. of Lakshipur area. Son of Mofazzal Prang. Golam Rabbani Suman (40), son of deceased Zakat Khamaru of Shivnagar. Sentu Khamaru (55), son of late Ayez Uddin Prang of Nabinagar Paschimpara. Mosharof Hossain (53), Shivnagar Md. Son of Ainul Prang. Nayan Ali (21), son of late Kishore Mandal of Kazipara area. Abul Kashem (60), son of deceased Ismat Mandal of the same area. Jahangir Hossain (30), son of late Ahad Ali Mandal of Nabinagar. Zahurul Islam (62), Shivnagar Md. Son of Inchan Mandal. Aftar Hossain (45), son of late Afaz Uddin of North Lalpur area. Lalpur police station officer-in-charge Nashim Ahmed (OC) said that the police conducted a raid in Shivnagar area based on secret information. The leaders and activists of Jamaat Shibir tried to escape from the secret meeting when they sensed the presence of the police. Later, the police arrested 20 leaders and activists of the Jamaat-Shibir from the spot. Meanwhile, a large number of anti-state books and leaflets were seized. Later, a case of sabotage was filed against them at the police station and they were sent to court on Wednesday afternoon.
