The opposition candidate’s people have been accused of beating to death the vice chairman candidate Md Suman Mia while campaigning for the upcoming upazila parishad elections in Narsingdi’s Raipura.
The attack took place in Mirekandi area of Paratali Union of the upazila on Wednesday (May 22) noon.
Suman Mia is the son of Charsubuddhi Union Chairman Nasir Uddin and was the candidate for Vice Chairman of Tala Pratik in Raipura Upazila Parishad elections.
According to the locals, when Tala Prateik’s vice chairman candidate Sumon Mia and his supporters were campaigning in Meerekandi area of Paratali Union of the upazila, a clash took place between Chashma Prateek’s vice chairman candidate Md. Rubel Mia and his supporters. The vice chairman candidate Suman Mia was seriously injured. He was rescued in a serious condition and taken to Raipura Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Raipura Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mostafizur Rahman said, they rushed to the spot after receiving the news.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) did not answer the mobile phone when contacted.
Raipura and Shibpur Upazila 3rd phase election date has been set for May 29.
