Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong arrived in Dhaka. This is the first high-level visit from Australia after the 12th National Assembly elections. It is expected that the country’s foreign minister will emphasize regional and global security issues in addition to advancing the bilateral relations of the two countries during his visit to Dhaka.
He arrived in Dhaka on a Malaysian flight shortly after 11 am on Tuesday (21 May).
Considering the geopolitical situation and focusing on the Indian Ocean region, Australia is interested in strengthening its relations with Bangladesh. Recently the country’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese congratulated Sheikh Hasina for being re-elected as Prime Minister. Anthony said he looked forward to continuing to work with the Head of Government to further strengthen the relationship between Australia and Bangladesh in the coming years.
Australian Prime Minister’s greeting message says that the country wants to increase relations with Dhaka. That is why Anthony wants to convey that message by sending the foreign minister to Dhaka. There is a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister in the afternoon.
Apart from this, there is a meeting with the Foreign Minister at the Rashtriya Guest House Padma in the afternoon. Also, the Foreign Minister of Australia can also visit the Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar. The visit will focus on expanding trade between the two countries. Also climate change, regional maritime security will also get special importance.
