Nargis Mohammadi, a renowned human rights activist who won the Nobel Peace Prize, has alleged that security forces sexually assault female prisoners in Iran’s prisons. Nargis, imprisoned for this, is facing a new trial, her family said yesterday on Saturday.

The trial is scheduled to begin on Sunday. Earlier last April, Nargis sent an audio tape from jail. The tape was circulated among his supporters. In it, Nargis criticized the ‘full-scale war’ on women in Iran.

In the latest case, Nargis has been accused of ‘spreading propaganda against the ruling structure’. However, Iran’s judicial authorities did not comment on this.

Nargis was quoted as saying by her family that the trial should be public. As a result, witnesses and victims will be able to testify publicly against the state’s sexual harassment of women.

Nobel laureate Nargis is kept in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.
Iranian authorities have intensified their crackdown on women in recent weeks for not following Islamic dress codes. In particular, video surveillance has been increased.

51-year-old rights activist Nargis Mohammadi won the Nobel Peace Prize last year. She received this prestigious award for her fight against oppression of women in Iran.

Nargis has been in jail since November 2021. He did not get a chance to meet his husband and children living in Paris for many years.

Nargis could not even attend the Nobel Prize due to her imprisonment. Nargis’ son accepted the award on her behalf at Oslo City Hall, the capital of Norway.

The family members of Nargis said that Nargis has served 12 years and 3 months imprisonment on various charges. Along with that, various social and political restrictions have been imposed on him.

However, the Iranian government could not suppress Nargis’s voice even though she was imprisoned. She is protesting and agitating against various restrictions including wearing scarves by women following the dress code while sitting in jail. She even refused to wear a scarf in front of male security guards inside the prison.
