Two Bangladeshi youths abducted from Naf river

Two Bangladeshi youths have been allegedly abducted while catching crabs in the Naf river of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar.

In this incident, the victim’s family filed a written complaint at the police station.

The families of the two youths claimed that the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) had abducted the young men.

The abductees are Chaila Mong Chakma, 29, son of deceased Ochamong Chakma, and Kyamongkho A Tanchangya, 25, son of Mongthaingching Tanchangya Chakma of Ward No 4 at Teknaf.

Chuching Cha Tanchangya, the mother of the abducted youth Kyamongkho Tanchangya, filed a written complaint with Teknaf police station and BGB-2 on Saturday.

It is known that they were abducted from Sluice gate No 5 area of Whykong Naf river in Teknaf around 2pm on Thursday.

Chuching Chha Tanchangya said in the complaint: “My son and grandson earn their livelihood by collecting crabs from the Naf river. Like every day, they go to the river to catch crabs around 9am on Thursday. As they did not return home in the evening, after searching in different places, I came to know that Arsa members had kidnapped my son and grandson from Naf river. They are still held hostage by Arsa members for three days.”

Salao Mong Chakma, the elder brother of the abducted Chaila Mong Chakma, said: “A group of miscreants took them away from Sluice gate No 5 in Whykong while going to collect crabs. Later I came to know that they are members of Arsa. So far no ransom demand or contact has been made.”

In this regard, Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Osman Gani said: “I have received a complaint about the disappearance of two Chakma youths. We are looking into the matter.”

Teknaf BGB-2 captain Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed said: “We are investigating the matter. The issue is being investigated.”
