The first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is set to be commissioned in March next year, bringing the much-anticipated mega project into production for the first time.
The interim government’s finance advisor Salehuddin Ahmed gave this information after exchanging views with government officials at the Pabna Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Friday (December 13) evening. Earlier, he visited the Rooppur project along with an expert team from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Expressing satisfaction over the safety of the Rooppur Power Plant, the Finance Advisor said, “We have visited the project to find out in detail some of the questions and observations of the Advisory Council. The project is being implemented following the latest safety procedures. We want to use its positive impact for the benefit of the country as soon as possible.”
He said, “As a large project, the extension of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project’s term is not very long. There is scope for an agreement with Russia on interest rates.”
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Mokabbir Hossain, Pabna Deputy Commissioner Mofizul Haque, Superintendent of Police Mortaza Ali and officials from all government departments were present at the time.
