Legal advisor Asif Nazrul has commented that the dream of building Bangladesh in 1971 failed due to the failure of one party.
He made these remarks to reporters after paying tribute to intellectuals at the Martyred Intellectuals Cemetery in Mirpur on Saturday (December 14) morning.
Asif Nazrul said that the freedom fighters jumped into the struggle out of love for the country. The July uprising was a continuation of that.
He said, “In the July Uprising, I saw students sacrificing their lives to fight for democracy, human rights, and a society free from discrimination. Today, I remember them by coming to the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial.”
The legal advisor said, “Despite the sacrifices of many people and martyrs in 1971, we failed to build the Bangladesh of our dreams, because of a certain mentality, because of the failure of a party. May that failure not be repeated.”
He said, “We have got a second chance to form a state in exchange for the sacrifices of the youth. Let us not waste that opportunity in any way. This is our desire on this Intellectuals’ Day.”
