A case has been registered in Chittagong court area regarding the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif. Names of 31 people have been mentioned in it.
Besides, 10 to 15 people have been named as unknown accused in the case.
The victim Saiful’s father Jalal Uddin filed the case at Kotwali police station in Chittagong city late last night. Apart from this, another case has been filed against 116 people with Khan Alam as the plaintiff in the attack on the court area. The case has been filed under relevant sections of the Penal Code and the Explosives Act.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) South Zone Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shakila Soltana told Dhaka Post that on Tuesday (November 26) two cases were registered in the court area on Friday night. In the meantime, we have thoroughly investigated the murder case and charged the accused. Earlier, there were 3 other cases in the same incident.
Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested by members of the Special Intelligence Branch (DB) of the Bangladesh Police from Shahjalal Airport on Monday (November 26) afternoon while traveling from Dhaka to Chittagong. The next day (Tuesday) Chinmoy Krishna was produced in the court of Metropolitan Sixth Kazi Shariful Islam after being arrested in a sedition case filed at Kotwali police station. The court ordered to send him to jail without granting bail. ISKCON followers protested about it. At that time, the protestors clashed with the members of the law and order security forces. After noon, the protesters dispersed and attacked various institutions including mosques and shops in the court area. Several motorcycles were also vandalized.
At one point in the afternoon, a lawyer named Advocate Saiful Islam was killed by a group of ISKCON followers in the lane of Rangam Convention Hall opposite the main gate of the court. He was a lawyer of Chittagong court.
Lawyer Saiful was buried in the family graveyard at Farenga village of Chunti union of the upazila after two rounds of janaza in Chittagong city and two rounds in Lohagara upazila on Wednesday. Advocate Saiful became a member of District Bar Association in 2018. Later he got registered as High Court Advocate
