28 health workers killed in 24 hours in Lebanon

At least 28 medical workers on duty have been killed in the past 24 hours since Israel launched air and ground strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, the World Health Organization (WHO) said. Reuters news

“Many health workers are not coming to work,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in an online press briefing on Thursday. They fled the area where they work because of the bombing.’

Ghebreyesus called for stronger protection measures for health workers, noting that the current situation in Lebanon is very ‘difficult and dangerous’ due to Israeli bombings.

37 health centers were closed in southern Lebanon. Even several hospital staff and patients in Beirut have been evacuated.

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Health Minister Firas Abiad said on Thursday that 40 ambulance and firemen have been killed in the last three days.

According to statistics from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, almost 2,000 people have been killed in Lebanon since the start of Israel’s attacks in the past year. Among them 127 children and 9 thousand 384 injured.
