After the downfall of the autocratic Awami government in a mass coup, some ministers, MPs and rank-and-file leaders were arrested, but party president and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with top leaders of her political party, are still absconding. About two and a half thousand cases including murder and attempted murder have been registered in the incident of shooting and attack on innocent students and people across the country from July 1 to August 5. In all those cases, police, RAB and army have arrested more than 6,000 accused in the last October. Among them, 6000 were arrested by police and 200 by RAB. Questions have been raised in the public mind that even though some ministers, MPs and Awami League leaders and activists have been arrested, Sheikh Hasina and her family members, the main planners of the genocide case, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud and dozens of other ministers and state ministers are still out of reach. It is alleged that many ministers and MPs fled across the border to neighboring countries after August 5. However, the National Central Bureau of Bangladesh (NCB) has recently started working to bring them back.

Police Headquarters AIG (Media) Inamul Haque Sagar told Naya Diganta that the court has issued arrest warrants against those who fled abroad. In the meantime, the police headquarters has received the report sent from the crime tribunal. There are certain rules and regulations for bringing accused through Interpol. In response to the question whether the political mafia who have not yet been arrested are in the country or abroad, he said that after August 5, the members of the law and order forces were in a state of demoralization for some time. At that time some may run away. Currently, the police force has turned around. Now they continue to work extensively. Accused of genocide or attempted murder cases are being arrested in anti-discrimination student movement every day. Former ministers and MPs are not exempted from this arrest. No one involved in genocide will be spared.

The International Criminal Tribunal has issued an arrest warrant against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of genocide. The interim government has said that the government will bring back the absconding accused including Sheikh Hasina by issuing a red notice to Interpol.

Last Sunday, the interim government’s legal advisor Professor Asif Nazrul said that no matter which country the fugitive fascist gang is in, they will be caught and brought to justice through Interpol. The court has ordered the arrest of the fugitives including Sheikh Hasina last month and to appear before the tribunal by November 18.
