Complaints against three army officers including the former army chief

Charges of genocide and crimes against humanity against former army chief SM Shafiuddin Ahmed and three former army officers have been filed in the International Criminal Tribunal and Missing Commission.


Another officer is – Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Akbar Hossain and Major General (Retd.) Md. Sarwar Hossain. At the same time, charges have been filed against 3/4 more unidentified people. Besides, they have been asked to ban them from going abroad until the investigation is over.

Supreme Court lawyer and former army officer Major (Retd.) M Sarwar Hossain filed this written complaint at the Dhanmondi Investigation Agency office on Monday (September 30). Before that, on Sunday (September 29), he filed a complaint with the commission regarding the same complaint

Barrister Sarwar Hossain said, I have submitted a written complaint to the International Criminal Tribunal against seven former army officers. They have committed crimes against humanity. They were once my colleagues. They have no sense of humanity. They can disappear or kill any person. I have sought exemplary punishment for them in the complaint.

The nature of the crime is said to be commission of crimes against humanity by abduction and disappearance by other accused on the order and plan of the accused. Sarwar Hossain mentioned the incident of disappearance that happened with him in the complaint. The site of the incident has been shown as the Dhaka Cantonment DGFI headquarters.

The lawyer who filed the complaint named the three former army officers as accomplices of the dictatorship, masterminds of disappearances and murders, creators and maintainers of secret detention centers (known as Aynaghars).

He said that the accused called him to the headquarters of the Directorate General of Defense Intelligence (DGFI) on October 27, 2016 over tea with the intention of making him disappear. He was threatened with secret detention for speaking out against the government. After holding him for 11 hours, he was released.

Sarwar Hossain said, he voluntarily retired after serving in the army for 20 years and engaged in the legal profession in 2007. Since 2008, he has spoken at various forums on good governance, justice, democracy and human rights.
