Bus-truck collision in Manikganj, 3 women garment workers killed

Three women were killed when a bus carrying garment workers collided with a truck at Manikganj’s Shivalay on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. At least 20 people were injured. The identity of the injured is not yet known.

The accident took place at Bowali Bridge area of ​​the upazila around 6:30 am on Thursday.

The deceased are Phulmati (35), wife of Baten of Zhikutia village of Shivaloy upazila, Sabina Akhtar (22), wife of Md Sabbir Hossain of Teota union of the same upazila and Bithi Akhtar (35), wife of Iqbal Hossain of Narayan Teota village of the same upazila.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narigail Highway Police Md. Ibrahim said that a bus carrying Taraseema garment workers bound for Manikganj collided with a truck on Thursday morning. The front end of the stricken bus was twisted and the truck fell into a nearby ditch. One person died at the scene of the accident and two others died on the way to the hospital. At least 20 passengers of the bus were injured.

He said that the local fire service, highway police, police station and locals worked to rescue the injured.

Shibaloy Upazila Health Complex Hospital emergency department doctor Shammi Akhter said that the exact number of injured patients cannot be said yet. However, they have given medical care to 20 people so far. Three women garment workers died before being brought to the hospital.
