Workers protest again in Ashulia, 52 factories closed

After several days of calm, labor protests again occurred in Ashulia, an industrial area. Workers of a garment factory blocked the road in Ashulia demanding unpaid wages.

Several thousand workers of Generation Next Garments blocked the road in Narsinghpur area of ​​Bypail-Abdullahpur road around 9:30 am on Monday.

The angry workers said, ‘When many factories were agitating for tiffin bill, night bill, increase in attendance bonus, we had no demand. Workers from other factories came and tried to disturb our factory but we worked. Still why our owner is closing the factory now.

The angry workers also said that our salaries have not been paid for the last two months (last month including the current month). Due to which we could not pay the house rent and shop balance. About five to six thousand of us workers are passing the day in extreme helplessness and uncertainty. We came to work in the factory because we were poor.

Earlier, the administration promised to pay our dues but it was not implemented. So today we are forced to protest on the streets. Now the administration people are coming and saying that if we don’t leave the road, they will be forced to be strict. So where do we go now?

It has been found that 52 factories in the industrial area are closed today due to new labor protests. Out of which 43 have been declared as indefinite leave under Section 13(1) of the Labor Act 2006 and general holiday in the remaining nine.

Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Bakar Siddique said, ‘In the morning, workers of a garment factory blocked the road in Narsinghpur area and protested. Later, a police team was sent to the spot. Besides, senior officials are present at the spot.

Sarwar Alam, Superintendent of Police of Industrial Police-1, said that production has stopped in 52 factories in Ashulia, an industrial area today. Section 13(1) has closed 43 garment factories. The rest have been declared general holidays. Members of law and order forces are working to control the situation at various points.
