India wants to strengthen relations with Bangladesh: Mirza Fakhrul

Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma held a meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. They held this meeting at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan of the capital on Sunday afternoon. In the meeting, BNP emphasized on solving the Bangladesh-water problem and stopping border killings. On the other hand, India emphasizes on strengthening relations with Bangladesh. Bilateral development between the two countries and various problems were discussed in the meeting for about an hour.

After the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul told reporters, ‘The relationship with Bangladesh, how to deepen and strengthen the relationship was discussed. I have highlighted the problems that Bangladesh has with India. 

BNP Secretary General said, ‘Our water problem needs to be solved quickly, border killing needs to stop. I said those words. I also talked about the issue of security. They (Indian High Commissioner) said that they are vigilant in these matters. They are trying to solve those problems quickly.’ 

Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘Their (India) main statement is that they want to strengthen relations with Bangladesh. Especially after this change (change of power in student revolution) they (Indian High Commissioner) have already contacted, talked with the new interim government. They also want to strengthen relations with BNP. They are keen to work on how to bring this relationship closer together.’

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Vice Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury, BNP International Relations Committee Member Shama Obaid and Indian Deputy High Commissioner Pravan Badhe were present in the meeting.
