4 fishing trawlers sink in Hatia, 30 fishermen missing

In Noakhali, 4 fishing trawlers that came close to the shore were sunk due to strong winds and waves in the Bay of Bengal.


More than 30 fishermen are reported to be missing from those trawlers. All their homes are in different unions of Hatia upazila.

On Friday (September 13) evening, there were incidents of trawler sinking near various points including Hatyar Amtali. However, the identity of the missing fishermen has not yet been confirmed.

Among the sunken trawlers were 1 from Amtali Ghat, 2 from Burir Dona Ghat and 1 from Kaderia Ghat. Besides, several other trawlers are reported to be missing.

Lutfullahil Mojib Nishan, the owner of Hatiar trawler, said that the trawlers sank while returning safely in the evening amid hostile weather. Most were small fishing trawlers. Initially four trawlers were reported to have sunk. However, we are receiving information about the sinking of many trawlers. Many fishermen are missing.

Locals are working to rescue the missing fishermen. However, it is not possible to go far as the sea is rough in the stormy weather.
