Case against three former ministers including Sheikh Hasina in Brahmanbaria

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Housing and Public Works Minister Ram Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and 54 others have been registered in the Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station.


Babul Mia, a resident of Suhilpur Union of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila, filed the case as plaintiff on Wednesday (28 August). Babul Mia is the brother of deceased Zahirul Islam

In the case, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Housing and Public Works Minister Obaidul Muktadi Chowdhury, former Law Minister Anisul Haque, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and District Awami League Senior Vice President Helal Uddin were made defendants.

Apart from this, the other defendants in this case are – Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) Constituency former MP Moin Uddin Moin, District Awami League Vice President Helal Uddin, Dr. Md. Abu Saeed, General Secretary Mahbubul Bari Chowdhury Montu, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Khokon, Organizing Secretary (3) Ekhteshamul Bari Tanzil, Tanzil Ahmed, former Upazila Chairman of Ashuganj Hanif Munsi, District Jubo League convener Shahanur Islam, Member Secretary Sirajul Islam Ferdous, District Awami. League member VP Hasan, ex-chairman of Vijaynagar upazila Nasima Mukai Ali, newly ex-zilla parishad chairman Billal Miah, advocate Ashraf Uddin Mantu, ex-Sarail upazila parishad chairman Sher Alam, ex-Sadar upazila parishad chairman Shahadat Hossain Shobhan etc. 200/300 more unknown accused have been made in this case.

Babul Mia, the plaintiff in the case, stated that on March 26, 2021, on the occasion of the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh, protests were held in various places of the district in opposition to Hefazet Islam. Babul Mia’s brother Zahirul Islam participated in this movement. In order to counter this movement, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Minister of Housing and Public Works Ram Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal held a meeting with Awami League party leaders and activists and other convicts to resist the agitators. Attacked with weapons. As soon as the protestors reached the spot, the protestors took out a protest march and announced to continue their movement, the accused indiscriminately fired bullets and cocktails at the protestors with the intention of killing them.

In the statement, he also mentioned that Zahirul Islam suffered severe bloody injuries in various parts of his body due to numerous bullets and cocktails fired by the attackers. He died on the spot. After recovering his dead body, he was taken to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead. After that, he was asked to take the body home without doing the post-mortem and sent him out of the hospital. Later, I and my people took the body of brother Zahirul Islam to the area and completed the burial. Later, when I went to file a case at the police station, the authorities threatened me by saying ‘I will not be prosecuted, if I file a case, they will kill me’. The case mentions that the case was delayed due to government interference at the time.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station confirmed the case. Mozaffar Hossain. He said that further legal action will be taken subject to the investigation of the case.
