Saudi ambassador appointed in Dhaka Isa Yusuf Isa Al Duhailan said that the chief adviser of the interim government. Muhammad Yunus can provide very capable leadership for the development of Bangladesh.

The Saudi ambassador said that there are currently 3.2 million Bangladeshis working in Saudi Arabia, who are making a significant contribution to the Saudi economy and sending about $5 billion in remittances through legal channels every year.

The ambassador also said that about 5 billion dollars are sent through informal channels, which can play a significant role in the economic growth of Bangladesh if brought through legal channels.

Also, Saudi Ambassador Isa Yusuf Isa Al Duhailan raised the issue of passport renewal of 69,000 unregistered Bangladeshi workers. Besides this, he called for increasing the economic relations between the two countries.

In this context, he mentioned that Saudi businessmen are interested in investing in various sectors in Bangladesh. Besides, the Makkah Road Initiative has been launched to ease the immigration process for performing Hajj and Umrah.

It should be noted that about 5 lakh Bangladeshis performed Umrah last year.

Meanwhile, calling for strengthening bilateral relations. Yunus appreciated the ongoing cooperation of Saudi Arabia. Later, during the meeting with Pakistan’s High Commissioner Syed Ahmad Maruf in Yamuna. Yunus called for SAARC to be revived.

He said, ‘SAARC can be a model like the European Union and should work together for mutual benefit.’

Pakistan High Commissioner Syed Ahmad Maruf highlighted the importance of reviving trade, economic relations and people-to-people contacts between the two countries and expressed interest in working together.

He mentioned that the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif and the people are deeply concerned about the recent floods in Bangladesh.

He informed about the preparation to provide assistance to Bangladesh. Besides, the ambassador congratulated the Bangladesh cricket team for winning the first Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
