Jamaat-e-Islami is in favor of giving time to the interim government even though BNP wants a roadmap for elections. Amir of the team Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, reasonable time should be given for the election. Constitution, administration, judiciary and political culture need to be reformed. Judiciary has been destroyed. There is no such thing as election commission, election system.

He said this in an exchange of views with IMCAB, an organization of representatives of various Indian media, at the Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat office in Paltan of the capital on Tuesday. At this time, he also talked about the deposed Awami League government and Sheikh Hasina’s departure from the country.

Shafiqur Rahman said, Awami League could not retain its achievements despite the liberation war. Sheikh Hasina’s exodus did not suit her. Jamaat leaders endured imprisonment and persecution but did not leave the country.

Shafiqur Rahman claimed that Jamaat would have been slandered if an incident happened anywhere in the country. Even when an MP was killed in Gaibandha, the Prime Minister stood in Parliament and blamed Jamaat for the murder. It was later proven false. Banning Jamaat was the biggest injustice.

Jamaat Amir said, division cannot be done on the basis of party or religion. I do not believe in revenge politics. Jamaat respects the rights of all. Jamaat cannot be involved in any harassing activities.

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, Executive Council Member Matiur Rahman Akand, IMCAB President Quddus Afrad, General Secretary Machum Billah and others were present in the exchange of views.
