Thousands of people are surrounding the state secretariat demanding the resignation of the chief minister over the much-discussed rape and murder of a doctor in West Bengal, India.

West Bengal Chhatra Samaj, a non-political organization of students, started ‘Nabanna Abhiyan’ in the direction of West Bengal State Secretariat on Tuesday morning local time.

On this day, several processions are expected to come from Kolkata and Howrah towards Navanna. According to Lalbazar sources, the police have taken all measures to stop those processions. 25 assistant rank officers have been given the responsibility to stop the procession. The police have placed aluminum guardwalls at 5 places on the Howrah Bridge, including the section on the Kolkata side.

There is a wooden Caesar barricade on the bridge to stop the procession. Iron barricades are being constructed at Chai places on the way to Nabanna towards Howrah. Barricades have been welded to large iron pipes dug into the streets to prevent them from being knocked down by protesters during the march.

Meanwhile, today again there is UGC-NET. Fearing the suffering of the examinees, the state administration has taken several steps. Passengers are likely to face problems on their way to Kolkata from Howrah.

According to NDTV news, a chaotic situation has developed on the streets of Kolkata, the capital of the state. Hundreds of people started a march towards the secretariat on the call of the West Bengal student community to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Riot police used teargas cells and water cannons to disperse the protesters. The protesters retaliated by pelting bricks and stones at the law enforcers.

The source also said that the police did not give permission for the protest march in the state on Tuesday. Mamata Banerjee’s political party Trinamool Congress on Monday alleged that the opposition was conspiring to destabilize the state. The state police barricaded the roads around the secretariat to prevent the protesters from marching. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the state secretariat Nabanna around 11 am.

More than 6,000 police personnel have been deployed in the Fala Secretariat area covered by security blankets. However, the protesters started moving towards the Secretariat from different parts of the city. At this time, the police clashed with the protestors on various streets of Kolkata. Police used tear gas and water cannons on the protesters. No casualties have been reported so far. However, the country’s media reported that several people were injured.
