Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘Conspiracy continues to thwart the August 5 revolution of the students. The nation should be aware of this. Those who came to the field with demands, where have they been so far? Since you have been patient for 15 and a half years, please be patient for some more time. Give them a chance to sort it out.’
He said this during a press briefing after seeing Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, who was seriously injured during the Ansar protest at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘People will not accept such activities. People will not forgive such misadventure again.’
He urged the concerned parties not to enter into any conspiracy.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘On August 5, there has been a change in the country. Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, has played an important role in the student movement. On Sunday, some unruly Ansar members stormed into the administrative center Bindu Secretariat in the name of agitation. Those students who had forced the fascist regime to flee with life and blood and bullets, came to listen, to pacify them. But they go beyond everything and hit the students. The students were forced to resist. During this time many people including Hasnat Abdullah were injured. I hope that Allah will bless him with a speedy recovery.’
He said, ‘The current advisory council has assumed responsibility through a mass revolution. The conspirators are rearing their heads again and again. The whole nation should be alert for this.’
Regarding the movement of different circles on the demands, he said, ‘They have just accepted the responsibility. Where have you been for so long? Why did not claim so long? They have taken responsibility at the request of the people. Give them a chance to work. How will it work if you keep them busy like this?’
Asked for his reaction to the Chief Adviser’s address to the nation, he said, ‘It was a responsible address.’
He expressed hope that the hopes of the nation will be fulfilled and the hopes of the countrymen will be fulfilled.
