Lebanon’s powerful armed group Hezbollah has carried out major attacks in Israel. The pro-Iranian group carried out this attack by launching more than 300 rockets.

On the other hand, Israel also announced an attack on Lebanon.

In a report on Sunday (August 25), Reuters and NDTV reported this information.

Both the Lebanon-based armed group Hezbollah and Israel have announced large-scale military operations against each other, according to reports. Iran-backed group Hezbollah said in a statement that it had launched several explosive drones targeting key Israeli military sites.

Hezbollah also said it fired more than 320 Katyusha rockets at various Israeli targets.

Meanwhile, in response to the threat of this attack, the Israeli military began attacking various targets in Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the attack early Sunday morning.

They said they had detected Hezbollah preparations for a ‘large-scale’ attack on Israeli territory. Israeli Air Force fighter jets were later deployed to neutralize the threat of an attack.

Hezbollah and its regional ally Iran are close allies. The group vowed to avenge the killing of Hezbollah military commander Fouad Shukar last month. Since then, there has been increasing tension in the region for the past few weeks. The armed group called the attack on its commander a direct provocation and an act of war.

Hezbollah said it had “launched a large number of drone strikes” targeting various targets deep inside Israel as part of an “initial response” to Shukr’s killing. Hizbullah said ‘military operations will take some time to complete’, saying it had fired a large number of rockets … targeting a large number of enemy positions and barracks and the Iron Dome platform.

Later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a meeting of the Security Cabinet. According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant declared a state of emergency throughout the country for the next 48 hours.

The Israeli military said in a statement, “The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have detected that the Hezbollah terrorist organization is preparing to fire missiles and rockets into Israeli territory.” In response to this threat, the IDF has been attacking terrorist targets in Lebanon. Israel Air Force (IAF) fighter jets are currently attacking targets of the Hezbollah terrorist organization that pose an imminent threat to the citizens of the State of Israel.’

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport announced flight delays and schedule changes early Sunday morning. Emergency services have also raised their level of preparedness amid fears of a possible large-scale attack by Hezbollah.

In response to rising tensions in the region, the US said it would ‘continue to support Israel’s right to self-defence’.

According to US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett, ‘Senior US officials are in constant contact with Israeli officials at the direction of President Joe Biden. We will continue to support Israel’s right to self-defense and work for regional stability.’
