Bangladesh Workers Party president and former minister Rashed Khan Menon has been remanded for 5 days by the court. His remand has been granted in the case of the shooting death of businessman Abdul Wadud in Newmarket police station area of ​​the capital.


Police produced him in court on Friday (August 23). After that, he was requested to be remanded for 10 days for proper investigation of the case. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider granted his 5-day remand.

Rashed Khan Menon was arrested from Gulshan area of ​​the capital on Thursday. He was shown arrested in a murder case at Newmarket police station.

The Workers Party is one of the partner parties of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance. During the Awami League period, he first served as the Minister of Private Aviation and Tourism and later as the Minister of Social Welfare.

Menon has recently been accused in several cases in connection with the killing of protesters in clashes with law and order forces during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Rashed Khan Menon was elected Member of Parliament as a candidate of the 14-party alliance led by Awami League from Dhaka-8 constituency for three consecutive rounds since 2008. He was elected in Barisal-2 constituency (Ujirpur-Banaripara) in the last 12th National Assembly elections.

Rashed Khan Menon was born on 18 May 1943. His ancestral home is in Baherchar Chinarkathi village of Babuganj upazila of Barisal district. He graduated in economics from Dhaka University in 1963 (honours) and did his post graduation in the same subject in 1964.

Menon came to leadership in 1962 through education movement. He had to go to jail repeatedly for political reasons. He was also expelled from the university. Passed MA in Jail Exams. Rashed Khan Menon was the president of East Pakistan Students Union, the main student organization at that time. Was Vice President (VP) of Daksur.
