After a decade and a half, Jamaat is running its activities openly. The office of the party has already been opened. However, instead of carrying out political programs, they focused on social activities. After the dramatic change on August 5, Jamaat held a meeting with the president, chief adviser and army chief. Although the party is still banned on paper. But in the end, the order banning Jamaat-Shibir is being revoked. Several sources of the government said that a notification may be issued in this regard within one or two days. The Jamaat has already appointed lawyer Shishir Monir to decide on the ban order and registration. When contacted, this Supreme Court lawyer told Manavzamin that the executive order banning Jamaat was not given on the basis of justification. We hope that the order will be withdrawn very soon.

He said that Jamaat was banned to divert people’s attention from the anti-quota movement. But the people of Bangladesh rejected it. Jamaat Secretary General Mia Ghulam Parwar also called for withdrawal of the order banning the party in a press conference.

 

At the final stage of the students’ movement, the government banned Jamaat and student camps on August 1. Under Section 18 (1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification banning Jamaat, student camps and their other organizations. At that time Jamaat did not show any strong reaction. Later on August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned and went to India in the face of the popular uprising.
