Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam said that independent media commission is being considered initially.
The adviser said this during his first office visit to the secretariat after receiving the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday (August 18).
He said, ‘We have initially thought about the Independent Media Commission. We will discuss with the journalists what will be its outlines. We want to take these initiatives in view of their statements after discussing with the journalist community.
The adviser said, ‘We will soon deal with the pictures that did not come due to the censor board. Will reconstruct the sensor board quickly. The demand of not having a censor board, we will also discuss and take a decision according to the rationale.
‘My request to you will be to promote my picture as little as possible. I have been running away for several days.’
In response to a question about the fear of lawsuits due to personal disputes or revenge, he said, ‘We have instructions that no disciplinary action should be taken against those who were not involved in the crime. Even if the cases, they will be taken on the basis of clear investigation. Specific instructions have been given to the Ministry of Law in that regard.’
When media workers drew attention to the fact that the Act has been pending for a long time, he said, ‘I will see to it.’
Nahid Islam said that the government wants the trial of Sagar-Rooney’s murder in a quick time, “We don’t want any kind of farce, controversy about it.”
He said, we are thinking of a structural reform of all the ministries. So that its long-term benefits come. Changes in various laws, discussing the issue of salaries of journalists and the institutions under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will be modernized.
There is widespread corruption in DFP and PIB – when attention was drawn to this, the advisor said, ‘We have said that we do not want to see any place of corruption, nepotism here. Institutions should stand up to us completely neutrally.’
The Informatdigontoion and Broadcasting Adviser said that the greatest strength of the media is its impartiality. But in the case of media in our country, like Awami League-BNP, there are two divisions in the media. These issues will be considered by journalists, so that we do not see any such partisanship among journalists. So that they can speak for the people from a neutral place.
