Air pollution in Pakistan’s Lahore has taken a terrible form. Around 900 people have already been hospitalized due to air pollution-related illnesses. In a report, this information was given by the country’s media, Dawn.
According to the report, the air pollution situation in the city has become so extreme that when you go out on the streets, your eyes are burning and your throat is burning.
It is learned that all schools have been closed in Lahore as well as several other cities of Punjab province to protect children from pollution. The authorities have announced to close the school till November 17.
IQAir, a Switzerland-based organization, regularly highlights the situation of air pollution. An air quality index gives people information about how clean or polluted the air is in a particular city. According to IQAir data, Lahore’s score on the Air Quality Index exceeds 1,000. The city’s latest score on Tuesday morning was 770.
Experts say that if the amount of particulate matter (ppm) in the air is between zero and 50, then the air quality index (AQI) is ‘good’. If this level is 51-100, the air is considered to be of ‘moderate’ quality and if it is 101-150, it is considered to be ‘dangerous’. And if the air is 151-200 ppm, it is called ‘unhealthy’, if it is 201-300 it is ‘very unhealthy’ and if it is 301-500 it is called ‘hazardous’.
