6 persons including two trawlers plying on Teknaf-Saint Martin route in Bay of Bengal have been abducted. They were abducted on their way from Teknaf to Saint Martin with cargo including rod-cement. There have been a few incidents of abducting fishermen from the sea recently.
Abdur Rashid, President of Teknaf-St. Martin Boat Owners Association, said yesterday, members of the ‘Arakan Army’ caught them from the Nafnadi estuary in the Bay of Bengal on their way to St. Martin in two trawlers with rod-cement from Teknaf. At that time the trawler had 6 staff. They are all residents of Saint Martin. I have a trawler among the seized trawlers. This matter has been informed to the law enforcement agencies.
Noor Alam, a resident of Saint Martin Island, said two trawlers were intercepted on their way to the island from Teknaf. There were 6 people in that trawler. There is panic among their families in this incident.
In this regard, Chairman of St. Martin’s Union Parishad, Mujibur Rahman said, “I have heard that 6 people, including two trawlers full of goods, were taken to Myanmar. However, inquiries are being made as to who and how the incident happened.
