The police clashed with the students protesting the quota reform in Shanirakhra of the capital. After Wednesday evening, both sides chased each other.
Meanwhile, six people were injured by police shotgun fire. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A two-year-old child is also among the injured.
The injured are – Iran, Sohag, Babu Mia and his infant son Rohit Mia and schoolboy Mahim Ahmed.
Injured businessman Babu Mia said that he was standing at the gate of his house with his child Rohit in Dania area. Then the bullets fired by the police hit him and his son.
Quota protesters blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway throughout the day. The toll plaza of Hanif flyover was set on fire in Shanirakhra’s Kajla.
In the evening, the police clashed with the students involved in the quota reform movement. The clash was going on till the last report was written at 9 pm.
Mohammad Ali, the father of the injured schoolboy Mahim Ahmed, said that he was returning home after finishing coaching in the evening. Then he fell into a chase. At that time, his son was injured in police firing.
Jatrabari Police Inspector (Investigation) said that the local BNP-Jamaat people blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway using the students as shields. They were dispersed in the evening. He claimed that he did not know whether anyone was injured in the police firing.
