The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported this information on Friday that 5.3 million people have left the country or sought refuge elsewhere in the war-torn Sudan since April.
The war in Sudan began on April 15, when two forces clashed over power. On one side is the Army (SAF), on the other the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The two forces were once allies. In 2021, they seized the power of Sudan through a coup. But the integration of the RSF with the military has recently raised tensions between the two sides. According to Sudan’s Ministry of Health, at least 3,000 people have died and more than 6,000 have been injured in the fighting.
