A total of 363 foreign nationals are languishing in jails in Bangladesh for various offences. The highest number of them are Indian citizens. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said this while replying to a written question from ruling party MP Farida Yasmin in parliament on Wednesday.
The home minister said among the 363 foreign nationals detained in Bangladesh jails for various crimes, there are 80 prisoners and 127 inmates. Besides, 156 foreign prisoners are awaiting release and repatriation in different jails of the country even after serving their sentences.
He said 212 Indians were detained, 114 from Myanmar, seven from Pakistan, six each from Nigeria and Malaysia, four each from China and Belarus, two each from Peru and Cameroon, and one each from the US, Botswana, Georgia, Tanzania, Malaya and Angola.
