Three Bangladeshis have been included in the ‘Asian Influential-100’ list conducted by New York City and State of USA. They are Shahana Hanif, the first New York City Council member of Bangladeshi origin, Maf Misbahuddin, the National President of the Alliance of South Asian-America Labor Association, and Tanbir Chowdhury, the President of De C Blue NY. This list includes the 100 most influential Asians working in various fields in New York State.
Tanbir Chowdhury is a Generation G political activist and the youngest in the list of 100. Although he is only 22 years old, he became known by working on Tom Swazi’s campaign in the special election held last January. Previously worked on the campaign of Eric Dinowitz, an elected council member from the Bronx, at an even younger age.
The purpose of the De C Blue NY organization is to win Democratic Party candidates in New York State elections. Tanbir Chowdhury’s place is 97 in the list of 100 people. Shahana Hanif’s position is at number 17. But she is not alone, she is joined by Asian-born council members Shekhar Krishnan, Linda Lee, Chee Oc, Sandra Wong, Julie Won, Suzanne Kuang. Shahana Hanif, co-chair of the City Council’s Progressive Caucus, previously chaired the City Council’s Committee on Immigration.
Maf Misbahuddin, who is of Bangladeshi origin, is at number 34 in the list. It is said about him, he leads various political activities as president of Asal, endorses candidates. Maaf Misbah is the Treasurer of District Council-37. It is the largest public employee union in New York City. He has also been president of Accountants, Statisticians and Actuaries of Local 1407 since 2000.
