Four Bangladeshis were killed in a fire in a sofa manufacturing factory in Musasanaiya area of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Among them there are three from Atrai Upazila of Naogaon. Relatives of the victims said that the fire happened on Wednesday (July 3) at 5:00 p.m. local time in Saudi Arabia. The three families of the victims are seeking the help of the government to bring the bodies to the country quickly.
The three deceased persons are Shukbar Rahman (40) son of Kabij Ali of Digha Schoolpara village of Atrai Upazila, Farooq Hossain (40) son of Mojibur Rahman of Tejanandi village, Enamul Hossain (25) son of Sahad Ali of Shikarpur village.
On Thursday afternoon, going to the house of Farooq Hossain of Tejanandi village, it was seen that the people and relatives of the village were crowded. The whole village was filled with tears and mourning. Farooq’s wife and two children seem to be unable to stop. Breaking down in tears again and again.
Farooq Hossain’s nephew Pintu said that uncle Farooq Hossain was a garment worker. Went to Saudi Arabia on loan about 6 years ago. But since going there, he faced many problems. Joined a new job in a sofa manufacturing factory 8 months ago. In the meantime, on Wednesday around 10 pm, he got to know that Uncle Farooq died in a fire in the factory.
Vidyut Hossain, son-in-law of deceased Shukbar Ali’s daughter of Digha village of the upazila, said that his father-in-law was an agricultural labourer. Two and a half years ago, after selling the 11th century land, he went to Saudi Arabia with the loan money. So far he has not been able to repay the loan. Shukbar has two sons and a daughter. Among the boys, Shamim Hossain, the eldest son, is disabled. He has nothing but the three-hundred-thousandth place of his only house. The mother-in-law is in dire straits as to how she will deal with her brothers-in-law. Father-in-law Shukbar Ali was the sole earner of the family.
Zahidul Islam, uncle of Enamul, the deceased youth of Shikarpur village, said that Enamul was a garment worker. Go to Saudi Arabia by borrowing money to build a house because of much happiness. From there, he is building a brick house by paying off the loan and debt only with the earnings. After finishing the housework, he was supposed to come to the country and get married by next year. But it was not his luck. On Wednesday night, the news came that he died in the fire. Since then, the parents have been stoned to grief over the loss of their only son. Nothing seems to be able to stop them. He wished the government’s foresight to bring the bodies of the victims to the country quickly.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanchita Biswas said, I have come to know that three people died in fire in Saudi Arabia. The families of the three victims have been contacted. The Ministry will be informed through the District Commissioner. Full cooperation will be given to bring the bodies of the deceased to the country.
