In Sherpur, the water has receded, but the suffering has increased, 10 deaths in two districts

Flash floods caused by heavy rains and landslides in five upazilas of Sherpur have improved. Four rivers continue to recede. The water of these rivers is flowing under the Bipatsima. However, the water of Brahmapatra river, Dashani and Mrgi river is increasing. Although the flood situation has improved, the suffering of the people has not decreased. Water did not go down from the house. There are still food and clean water shortages in every area. 

Meanwhile, a child named Rahim (5) died after drowning in flood water in Talki area of ​​Nakla upazila on Tuesday. He is the son of Rafiqul Islam of that area. A total of 10 people lost their lives in Nalitabari, Jhenaigati and Nakla. Apart from this, a person named Rusmat Khan (62) died after drowning in the river in Durgapur upazila of Netrakona. The accident took place in Sreepur village of Gaonkandia union of the upazila on Monday evening. He was buried on the side of the road on Tuesday morning as there was water around him.

Water has decreased in Jhenaigati upazila. But Nakla and Nalitabari upazilas have not received water yet. Even though the water level has receded in some places, the victims are not able to return to their homes from the shelters. Roads are submerged; It is broken somewhere. People are in trouble with domestic animals. Army, BGB and various departments are conducting relief activities with local administration and voluntary organizations.

According to the information of the agriculture department, this year’s flood has caused a loss of Tk 500 crore in the agriculture sector alone. About 50,000 hectares of land of two and a quarter lakh farmers have lost their crops. About 300 million rupees were lost due to the floating of 3000 fish enclosures. 

Abdul Jabbar of Gaglajani village of Nalitabari upazila said, I started fish farming in a pond of 50 acres of land by borrowing money. But all the fish were washed away by a sudden flood. Now I am worried about how to repay the loan.

Deputy director of Sherpur farm. Sukalp Das said, there is still flood water in many places. Due to this it is not possible to assess the damage.

Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman said that the water of almost all the rivers in the district is below the safe limit. The water has started to recede. This has improved the overall flood situation of the district. 

One and a half lakh people are stuck in water in Mymensingh

Due to torrential rain since yesterday morning, some areas of three upazilas of Mymensingh have been flooded again. The flood situation is likely to worsen further if the rains increase. Local and district administration, army and voluntary organizations are delivering relief materials to the flood affected areas.

At least 75,000 people are still waterlogged in 12 unions of Haluaghat upazila due to landslides and rain. Homesteads, Aman paddy fields, fish farming ponds have been severely damaged in the flood affected areas. There is a shortage of clean water and food. Although the water has reduced in many areas of Dhobaura Upazila, Goatla, Dhobaura Sadar has increased. There are still 60 thousand people in 75 villages of the upazila under water.

Meanwhile, various areas of Phulpur upazila have been flooded as the water coming down from Sherpur entered Chandhara Union of Phulpur through Malizhi and Kangs rivers. In Chandhara Union, the water has reduced a little, but in Sinheshwar, Phulpur Sadar and Balia Union, around 16 villages have been inundated. At least 24 thousand people in 35 villages of the upazila are under water.

200 grams of water in Netrakona

In Panch upazila of Netrokona, there are still lakhs of people in about 200 villages without water. There is a shortage of food and clean water. According to the Water Development Board, the water level of Someshwari in Durgapur, Ubdakhali, Netai, Purbadhala, Netrakona Sadar and Barhatta in Barhatta, Kans, Magra rivers has risen due to heavy rains and hill slopes. Due to rain yesterday morning, the water level of various rivers including Someswari, Kansa, Uddhakhali, Magra is rising. The water of Udakhali river is flowing over the border.

17 thousand 535 hectares of Aman rice plantations in the district have been submerged in water. People are in trouble with cattle. Cash has been distributed to the flood victims for rice, pulses, oil and baby food and cow food. 

Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas said shelters have been opened for flood-affected people. Relief materials are being distributed among the water stranded people.
