The incidence of dengue is gradually increasing in the country. In the last 24 hours, 1 thousand 218 people have been admitted to the hospital due to dengue infection.
With this, the number of people affected by dengue this year stands at 37 thousand 808 people. Besides, two new deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of deaths this year has reached 188.
This information was informed in the regular report on dengue sent from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Department of Health on Monday (October 7) evening.
According to the report, 1 thousand 218 people were admitted to the hospital due to dengue fever in the last 24 hours. Among them, there are 425 people in the two city corporation areas of Dhaka. Besides, 254 people have been admitted to hospital in Dhaka Division, 102 in Barisal, 221 in Chittagong Division, 91 in Khulna, 21 in Mymensingh and 68 in Rajshahi.
From January 1 to October 7 of this year, 37 thousand 808 people were admitted to hospital due to dengue infection. 63.2 percent of them are men and 36.8 percent are women. Of the 188 deaths during the same period, 50.5 percent were women and 49.5 percent were men.
Dengue outbreaks occur every year during the rainy season. From June 2023, the dengue situation became dire. Last year 3 lakh 21 thousand 179 patients were admitted to the hospital and received treatment in the country. Among them, 100,800 people were treated in Dhaka and 211,171 people outside Dhaka.
Three lakh 18 thousand 749 people recovered from the hospital and returned home. Last year, 1,705 people died of the mosquito-borne disease, the highest single-year death toll in the country’s history.
Earlier in 2019, 1 lakh 1 thousand 354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. Around 300 people including doctors and health workers died at that time.
During the corona epidemic in 2020, dengue infection was not seen much, but in 2021, 28 thousand 429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country. 105 people died of dengue that year.
In addition, in 2022, a total of 62 thousand 382 people were admitted to the hospital with dengue. That year, 281 people died from the mosquito-borne disease.
