Many questions have arisen in the public mind about the construction of a luxury house of a private car driver in Singair of Manikganj. The driver’s name is Atiqur Rahman. He is known as the driver of former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader’s wife Isratunnessa Quader.

It has been alleged that Drishtinandan built a duplex house at a cost of around 2 crore rupees in his village by earning money illegally under the umbrella of the former minister and his wife. Besides, he has several businesses in Dhaka. Many questions have arisen in the public mind about Atiq’s wealth of several crores by becoming a private car driver.

It is said that after speaking with the locals, Atiqur Rahman (38), son of the deceased Lehajuddin of Kashimnagar Mahalla of Singair Municipal Area. After completing his education in the seventh grade, he chose the profession of driving. He started his career in the area by driving a baby taxi. Later, due to his older brother’s driving job in Dhaka, he got an opportunity to work as a driver in the road transport and bridge department. Later he got responsibility as the driver of former minister Obaidul Quader’s wife.

Atiq did not have to look back after that. By gaining their trust, he earned huge amount of money illegally in various ways. Drishtinandan built a duplex house in the village house. Besides, he started the business of gent’s parlor and restaurant in Dhaka.

On the condition of anonymity, several people in the vicinity said that even though there were restrictions on the entry of any truck full of bricks from Singair to Dhaka during the Corona period, Atiq used the name of the minister and his wife to arrange the entry of the vehicle by paying Tk 5,000 per vehicle. The kiln owners of Singair also took refuge in it. Millions of rupees have been collected in this way.

They also said that Atiq worked as a small car driver for a salary of Rs 18,000 and how he built several businesses in the city and duplex houses in the village. The matter has become the talk of the town.

After the fall of the Awami League government in the face of anti-discrimination movement on August 5, people started opening up about the source of illegal wealth of driver Atiqur Rahman. The local residents demanded that the administration look into the matter subject to investigation.

The accused went to the private car driver Atiqur Rahman’s house and could not find him. If you try to contact the mobile phone several times, even if it rings, it will be turned off immediately without receiving.

Atik’s younger sister Rabeya Khatun said, my brother works in Dhaka and deals in bricks. He drove the car of Minister Obaidul Quader’s wife for five-six years. Now he drives his car.

Atiq’s mother Chahela Khatun said, “My son works in government and drives a car. Besides, there are two stores in Dhaka doing business with partners.

He also said that the construction of the house will cost about 2 crore rupees. My son is under stress now. He also said that various people came to the house and demanded money.

Singair Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee President Engineer Md. Yunus said, our job is to make people aware against corruption. We have no jurisdiction to investigate. However, if someone complains to ACC about this, the commission will investigate and take action.

In this regard, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Manikganj District ACC, Advocate Aziz Ullah said, if someone is like this, action will be taken according to law. It wants my acc; I also want as a PP. But we cannot take into account until we have any records.
