Presentation of Sweden-Algeria ambassador’s credentials to the President

President Md. Newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nicholas Linus Ragnar Weeks and Algerian Ambassador Dr. Abdelwahab Saidani.

A smart contingent of the Presidential Guard Regiment provided a guard of honor to the ambassadors on their arrival at Bangabhaban on Wednesday morning.

First, the newly appointed Ambassador of Sweden, Nikolaus Linus Ragnar Weeks presented the credentials to the President. Then the new ambassador of Algeria presented the identity card. Abdelwahab Saidani.

At this time, the President welcomed the new ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh. The President said that Bangladesh’s bilateral relations with Sweden are very good.

He said that Sweden has been one of Bangladesh’s development partners for the past five decades. Apart from socio-economic development, this bilateral cooperation is also playing an important role in the development of women and children and establishment of gender equality.

The President expressed satisfaction about the bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Sweden and said that there are more opportunities to increase trade and investment in various fields including information technology, renewable energy, blue-economy, maritime industry, food processing. He requested the ambassador to take initiatives to increase the facilities for Bangladeshi students in Sweden.

The President expressed hope that Sweden as a member of the European Union will make an important contribution to increasing cooperation on international peace, security, human rights, sustainable development and climate change.

At the time, the President praised Sweden’s role in rehabilitating the forcibly displaced Rohingyas and urged them to play a role in their dignified repatriation.

During the meeting with the newly appointed ambassador of Algeria, President Md. Sahabuddin said, as OIC member countries, Bangladesh and Algeria cooperate and support each other in various international forums.

He said that 20 MoUs have already been signed between the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations. If these are implemented, the existing relationship between the two countries will be strengthened and the area of ​​trade and investment will be further expanded.

The President urged Algeria to import various world-class products including medicine, textiles, jute products from Bangladesh. On the other hand, Bangladesh can import LNG, LPG, urea, dates from Algeria through which the bilateral trade-investment relationship can further increase, the President said. For this purpose, he emphasized on the exchange of visits between the concerned officials of the two countries.

During the meeting, the new ambassadors of Sweden and Algeria sought the full cooperation of the President in fulfilling his duties in Bangladesh. They also expressed their commitment to increase mutual cooperation.

During the meeting, Senior Secretary of the President’s Office Nasimul Gani and Military Secretary Major General Mohammad Adil Chowdhury, Press Secretary Md. Zainal Abedin and Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin and related people were present.
