Erdogan advises the United Nations to use force if Israel does not stop

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the General Assembly should recommend the use of force against Israel in accordance with a resolution passed in 1950 if the Security Council fails to stop Israel’s attacks on Gaza and Lebanon.

The Uniting for Peace Resolution passed in 1950 states that if the five permanent members of the Security Council fail to maintain world peace due to differences among themselves, the United Nations General Assembly can step in.

After the cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday, Erdoğan referred to this resolution and said that the General Assembly should recommend the use of force against Israel.

Erdogan also commented that he was saddened by the failure of Muslim countries to take a more active stance against Israel He called on Muslim countries to take economic, diplomatic and political steps to force Israel into a ceasefire.
