Former minister Gazi arrested in journalist Hasan Mahmud murder case

Former Minister of Textiles and Jute and Chairman of Gazi Group Golam Dastgir Gazi has been shown arrested in connection with the killing of journalist Hasan Mahmud, President of Dhaka Metropolitan South of Bangladesh Nationalist Road Transport Workers’ Party.


On Tuesday (October 1), the police produced him from the Narayanganj jail in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka. After that, the investigating officer of the case, SI Azizul Haque Bhuiya of Khilgaon police station, requested to show arrest in this case. After the hearing, the Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, Saiful Islam, granted the application to arrest him in this case. He then ordered to send him to prison.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Golam Dastgir from his residence in Shantinagar, Dhaka on the night of August 25. Later, he was taken on six-day remand in the murder case of Roman Mia, a class 10 student who was shot dead in Rupganj during the student uprising. On September 1, the deceased Shafiqul Islam Shafiq and Babul of Narayanganj were remanded for three days in a total of six days. On September 18, the court granted Golam Dastgir Gazi’s five-day remand in the Parvez murder case at Fatulla police station in Narayanganj.

On August 29, Hasan Mahmud’s wife Fatema filed a murder case in Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque’s court. The court directed the Khilgaon police to accept the complaint as a statement. After that Khilgaon police took the case as evidence. 35 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been accused in this case.

Other accused in the case include Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Salman F Rahman, Golam Dastgir Gazi, Shamim Osman, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Babu, Shahjahan Khan, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Enayet Ullah, Erfan Salim, Lotus Kamal, Atiqul Islam. , Harun-or-Rashid, Biplab Kumar Sarkar.

Fatema, the plaintiff in the case, complained that Hasan Mahmud used to earn his living by working as a journalist. During the anti-discrimination student movement on July 31, he left his house in Uttara Mugdapara around 1:30 am. He did not return home at night. After a lot of searching, it came to know that Hasan Mahmud was picked up by unknown people wearing white clothes and 50/60 more unknown people. Later came to know that her husband was lying in front of Gogan Chapra Mosque. When he was taken to Mugda Medical College Hospital at 5 am, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
