1581 people were martyred in the student movement: Health Affairs Sub-Committee

The sub-committee on health has released the list of martyrs of the July uprising led by the anti-discrimination student movement. According to the latest information, the committee has released the news of a total of 1581 deaths across the country.

This information was given in a press conference organized by the health sub-committee, citizen committee and other stakeholders at Dhaka University student-teacher center auditorium on Saturday (September 28) at 3:30 pm.

According to the sub-committee, more than 31,000 students were injured in the July uprising. However, the committee members said that this is not final. They also said that the information of many injured has come more than once and the names of many have not been added to the list yet.

Tarek Reza, member secretary of the sub-committee on health, said, with the joint efforts of the central sub-committee on health and the national civic committee formed by the anti-discrimination movement, we have been able to prepare a preliminary list of martyrs in the anti-discrimination student movement across the country. Our initial list included a total of 1,581 individuals.

“Our preliminary list has been sent to the committee headed by the District Commissioner in each district for verification. This committee will provide the final list to the Ministry of Health after verifying the information.

He said, As-Sunnah Foundation, Human Rights Support Society, Red July and many other organizations have given us help in the preparation of the list. Apart from this, various local level people have also assisted us by providing information, which has played an important role in preparing this list.

Nasir Uddin Patwari, convenor of the civic committee said, “We confirmed this information by calling or directly contacting the martyr’s family. But still there may be many more persons who were martyred but their names are not included in this list. We are trying our best through the District Committees to get every name and information verified.

The press conference was attended by Nahida Bushra, Convener of Health Affairs Sub-Committee, Farhad Alam Bhuiyan of IT Team, As-Sunnah Foundation, Human Rights Support Society, Red July Leaders.

On August 21, the anti-discrimination student movement formed a health sub-committee to monitor the treatment of those injured in the quota reform and government fall movement.

Nahida Bushra Iti was appointed as convener and Tarekul Islam as member secretary in the sub-committee. Other members are Abdullah Ibn Hanif Arian, Md. Masuduzzaman, Md. Russell Mahmud, Md. Riaz Uddin Shakib, Shahriar Mohammad Yamin, Dr. Md. Moniruzzaman, Dr. Ataur Rahman Rajib, Dr. Iffat Jahan Nadia, Mahmudl Hasan, Md. Mehdi Hasan, Abdullah Al Mahmud (Mehdi), Md. Mashrafe Sarkar, Shahriar Hasnat Tapu, Md. Ramim Khan and Abir Hasan.
