Saudi Arabia has announced the formation of a global coalition aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state and implementing a two-state solution. Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced this on Thursday. Anadolu Agency reported this information with reference to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

In a speech on the sidelines of the United Nations General Session in New York, Farhan said, “On behalf of the Arab and Islamic countries, we have announced the formation of a global alliance with European partners to implement the two-state solution.” The alliance was founded on the firm belief that a permanent solution to the Palestinian-Israeli crisis can only come through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. What we are trying to do is build a coalition to implement a two-state solution, and that requires some basic elements, including capacity building of the Palestinian Authority.

He said Saudi Arabia and its allies will hold senior-level meetings in Riyadh, Brussels (headquarters of the European Union), Cairo, Oslo, Amman and Ankara as part of this plan. I fail to understand, how can continuing the war be the only option? We must have other options before us and so I reiterate our call for a ceasefire and the victory of diplomacy.
