US announces new aid for Rohingyas

he United States has announced a new grant of 199 million US dollars as humanitarian aid for the Rohingya refugees who have fled Myanmar and sought refuge in Bangladesh.

The announcement was made by US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Jaya after participating in a side event of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

This information was given in a press release from of the country .

The State Department’s Division of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) will provide $70 million of the grant.

The remaining USD 129 million will be provided by USAID. USD 78 million of the grant given by the organization will come from the country’s Department of Agriculture.

Noting that the US assistance will help the Rohingya escape violence and persecution, the release also said that the grant would prepare the refugees for a quick return home.

Since August 2017, the United States has sent more than two and a half billion US dollars in financial aid to Rohingya refugees.

Out of this, more than 2.1 billion USD has been donated to Bangladesh.

One and a half billion dollars of the grant came from the country’s Department of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM).
