Six people have died of dengue in the last 24 hours, which is the highest in a single day this year.
This information was informed in the press release sent from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Department of Health on Wednesday (September 18) night.
In the first few months of the year, the outbreak of dengue fever carried by the Aedes mosquito is largely under control, but at the end of the year, it is gradually increasing. Besides, another 865 people have been admitted to the hospital due to dengue infection in the last one day.
According to the information of the Department of Health, 119 people have died of dengue since January this year. A total of 21 thousand 79 patients were admitted to the hospital during this period.
Among the new hospital admissions are 145 in Chittagong Division, 121 in Dhaka Division (outside City Corporation), 251 in Dhaka North City, 142 in Dhaka South City, 94 in Khulna Division and 18 in Mymensingh Division. Besides, 46 new patients were admitted in Barisal division, 20 in Rajshahi division and 28 in Rangpur division.
In the last one day, 603 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country. 18 thousand 500 people got clearance this year.
Dengue outbreaks occur every year during the rainy season. From June 2023, the dengue situation became dire. Last year, 321 thousand 179 patients were admitted to the hospital and received treatment in the country. Among them, 100,800 people were treated in Dhaka and 211,171 people outside Dhaka.
Three lakh 18 thousand 749 people recovered from the hospital and returned home. Last year, 1,705 people died of the mosquito-borne disease, the highest single-year death toll in the country’s history.
Earlier in 2019, 1 lakh 1 thousand 354 people were infected with dengue nationwide. Around 300 people including doctors and health workers died at that time.
During the corona epidemic in 2020, dengue infection was not seen much, but in 2021, 28 thousand 429 people were infected with dengue fever across the country. 105 people died of dengue that year.
In addition, in 2022, a total of 62 thousand 382 people were admitted to the hospital with dengue. That year, 281 people died from the mosquito-borne disease.
