Poets, journalists and cultural figures – those involved in fascism or inciting genocide – will ‘definitely’ be brought to justice, said Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam.

He said this in response to the questions of journalists after exchanging views with the newly elected committee members of the Film Censor Board and Joori Board in the ministry meeting room at the secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.

When asked about the murder case against journalists, Nahid Islam said that the cases are not being done by the government, they are being done from the people’s place. It is also being done from a place of personal enmity. From there we have given instructions and assured that these cases will be reviewed in expeditious time. will be investigated. If there is no complaint, the case will be dismissed.

‘Yesterday also I sat with the Press Club and Secretariat Journalist Forum. I have said, if there is any such complaint against any journalist or there is a matter of being harmed, the Ministry of Information will send details about it. We will see,’ he added.

Nahid said, ‘Besides, I have also said that no one will be spared only by being a journalist, cultural person and poet. Those who were involved in fascism, shaped public opinion through writings and opinions, worked for genocide, incited, must be brought to justice.’

In response to a question about giving magisterial powers to the army, the adviser said, ‘The law and order situation is gradually improving. This power has been given to the army so that the law and order situation can be fixed quickly, public safety is ensured, as we are in an emergency situation, the country is being restructured. This power has been given for the next two months.

‘During this period, the police force will be completely reformed and brought back to the field to be stronger and more confident. That is why such a decision has been taken,’ he added.

Rumors are spreading widely on social media. In this situation, when asked about the information ministry’s rumor cell, he said, ‘We are talking to various parties and media about fact-checking. Thinking about how fact-checking can be strengthened.

Stating that there is a plan for a fact-checking cell, the information advisor said, ‘We are thinking about fact-checking so that the truth can be presented to people by verifying the truth of such rumors on social media, so that people are not influenced by rumors and lies.’
